About Me

Breckinridge
Lexington, Kentucky
Opened in 1963, Breckinridge Elementary was named for Madeline McDowell Breckinridge, a well-known philanthropist and a great-great granddaughter of Henry Clay. The original building had 16 classrooms. In 1970, 16 more classrooms were added to meet increasing enrollment needs. Peak enrollment was reached in 1972 with more than 900 students. We currently have just over 500 students enrolled. Breckinridge is special because we are like a “BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW” with students from different countries and cultures! We also have a loving, caring staff that welcomes every child every day with a smile and a hug. Teachers work diligently with each student to ensure they become productive thinkers and citizens.
